However, after the failure of The Princess and the Frog [2] , Disney decided to take a hint from Pixar and make their titles more gender neutral: Disney hopes the introduction of the slightly bad-boy character will help it tab the broadest possible audience for "Tangled", emulating the success of its corporate sibling, Pixar.
LAtimes Finally, they decided on "Tangled": In rethinking "Rapunzel", Disney tested a number of titles, finally settling on "Tangled" because people responded to meanings beyond the obvious hair reference: a twisted version of the familiar story and the tangled relationship between the two lead characters.

SupremeGrandRuler Seems like a good new question, not good for a comment addition. I forget my source probably Ed Catmull's Creativity Inc. Marketing saying "you can't say princess in the title" while the creatives held their ground. After the poor results of Princess and the Frog, the creatives paid more heed to marketing and changed the name for Tangled. Italian - it also has a subtitle with a pun. Maybe the gender-neutral title wasn't mandatory everywhere?
Another thing that makes "Tangled" stand out from other Disney Princess movies is that it's not just about the princess; it's about Flynn Rider too. Actually, that's one of the reasons why the film is called "Tangled. Flynn is also really, really, ridiculously good-looking. That's because "Tangled" directors Nathan Greno and Byron Howard famously held a " Hot Guy Meeting " during the design phase, where all the girls at the studio came in to vote on what makes a smokin' male lead.
The result, I think, speaks for itself. Oh, the smolder! Of course, it didn't hurt that Flynn was voiced by the oh-so charming Zachary Levi either. However, Flynn's best feature isn't his good looks; it's that he's his own man with his own story arc. And despite the character's insistence that he doesn't "do backstories," we learn just as much about him as we do Rapunzel. Together, their partnership outshines any other in Disney Princess canon. Well, besides Pascal and Maximus. But that's obvious.
Coming from a background in music, we knew Mandy Moore had the pipes and acting chops to voice Rapunzel. But who knew the actress would be so darn lovable as a Disney Princess? In keeping with the film's modern trend, Moore's take felt like a breath of fresh air as far as making Rapunzel seem like a real, fun-loving person.
In other words, Mandy Moore crushed it. You wouldn't know it, but Rapunzel's fabulous golden locks were a nightmare to tame for Disney animators.
We got about titles listed out. Some of them were really terrible. And the one we kept coming back to was Tangled. BH: Sure. The worst one was The Adventures of Flynn Ryder. NG: They were mostly lame. During her pregnancy, Arianna became gravely ill, forcing the citizens of the kingdom to search for a fabled magic, golden flower with healing abilities.
Once it was retrieved, the flower was given to Arianna, and its power saved both the queen and her daughter, named Rapunzel. Due to the flower's powers, Rapunzel was born with golden hair that also had the ability to heal the sick and injured. Because of this, a woman named Mother Gothel - who had previously hoarded the flower's power for hundreds of years to keep herself young - broke into the castle, stole Rapunzel, and hid her deep within the forest outside of Corona's reach.
Rapunzel was then raised as Gothel's daughter, and her power to heal was hoarded by the witch once more. To ensure she never lost the flower's magic again, Gothel forbade Rapunzel from ever leaving the tower. Seventeen years after her kidnapping—on the eve of her eighteenth birthday—Rapunzel met a notorious thief named Flynn Rider. With his help, she managed to escape Mother Gothel, return to Corona, and reunite with her biological parents.
Rapunzel then resumes her rightful place as princess and heir to Corona's throne.
